Metaphors of Vulnerability
Project developed during my MA in Textile Design in Chelsea College of Art and Design in London.

The purpose of my project was to understand emotional vulnerability, the source of this feeling and the effects it has over women’s everyday lives. My design exploration focused on trying to translate different emotions related to vulnerability to the textile matter and to clothing pieces taking into account that vulnerability makes us communicate our identity in two different ways: by containing and sometimes expressing who we really are (inside), and by creating and constructing an image of how we want other people to perceive us (outside).Different textile techniques were used as a metaphor for different emotions interacting within each other and the resource of transparency could help represent the relation between the inside identity and the outside one. Four garments were designed to portray these relationships and to depict different ways of perceiving and experiencing emotional vulnerability.
